    Each year an extraordinary father figure joins a prestigious list of previous award winners.

    Since 1956, the Victorian Father of the Year award has recognised father figures who have made positive contributions to the lives of young people and their communities.

    Historically the award focused on recognising well-known community leaders, which is why see names like Bert Newton and Andrew Gaze.

    In recent years, the focus has switched to providing a platform for everyday father figures with extraordinary stories.

    2022 | Michael te Wierik

    Awarded for providing unconditional love to more than 70 foster children for over 15 years.
    2021 | Sam Chew

    Awarded for showing unwavering unwavering dedication to his three children through grief and the hardships of COVID-19.
    2020 | Stephen Curran

    Awarded for showing unwavering support and dedication to his family. Stephen resides in Sunshine has been a driver for Metro trains for over four decades.
    2019 | Christopher Youngman

    Awarded for his story of sacrifice, determination and strength while looking after his baby boy who was battling cancer.

    2018 | Sundeep Jadhav

    Awarded for going above and beyond for thousands of young people, always with a positive attitude. Sundeep is passionate about mentoring.
    2017 | Jason Stack

    Awarded for his resilience and commitment to family through adversity. Jason was nominated by his teenage daughters.
    2016 | Terry Mitropoulos

    Awarded for overcoming adversity and understanding the importance of family. “If you have love, you have it all.”
    2015 | Abubeker Mohamed

    Awarded for being a loving father who ensures that his seven children have the best opportunities.

    A medical pioneer whose work introduced penicillin and conquered polio in Australia.
